the village voice hired me for a spot a couple weeks ago! i was so excited! =)

it was for this article about nyc's drinking/dining trends over the last 10 years, using the character of a newly-awakened Rip Van Winkle to highlight the changes that have taken place. my piece illustrates the rise of new local breweries, and how delightful that is to Mr. Van Winkle. it's my first gig, and i was all exclamation points about it. thankfully the art director, jesus diaz, was super nice and didn't make fun of my cartoonish enthusiasm.
here are my initial sketches; i'd gotten confused and thought it was square:
