incautious media-intake has curious effects on my sketchbook.

for a change, sketches of live animals, rather than live music. from hanging around this weekend at the Music City Futurity, my mother's annual charity horse show.

a quick sketchbook spread from an in-store performance at Grimey's yesterday (colored in after the fact). i really like this band. their new album, The Disaster, kept me motivated during my mad blind popup quest a few weeks back-- and for those who didn't preorder it off pledgemusic, it was just released on itunes and at bandcamp.com yesterday!

my view wasn't awesome, and i wish i'd been quick enough to catch a sketch of the trombone and maracas, but oh well; that's how on-site sketching goes. =)

last night i went to Dr. Sketchy's Nashville, a monthly event wherein burlesque models (in awesome costumes!) model for figure drawing sessions (in a bar!). it's super fun, and a good opportunity to practice drawing from life (while drinking beer!). this month's theme was 'Spring,' and featured Red Hot Annie down from Chicago. =)

i was recently asked to develop a logo concept for a rock-n-roll cupcake cafe (would that i could have been paid in cupcakes).

i got fixated pretty quickly on the idea of mod circles and vinyl records being identical twin cousins- luckily my client totally saw the resemblance. the final result of the process was a tight sketch, not a finished logo.

last night i went to Dr. Sketchy's Nashville, a monthly event wherein burlesque models (in awesome costumes!) model for figure drawing sessions (in a bar!). it's super fun, and a good opportunity to practice drawing from life (while drinking beer!). this month's theme was 'halloween,' so the model was dressed up like a burlesque dragon (with banner-wings!).
